On 28 September 2023, the 5th year students of the Integrated Master’s Degree in Architecture at the University of Minho, under the guidance of Professor Jorge Branco, explored the world of wood construction during a visit to the PORTILAME facilities in the Industrial Zone of Neiva, Viana do Castelo.
During the visit, it was possible to observe the meticulous selection and preparation of raw materials. This experience allowed the students to understand the advanced and innovative techniques used in wood construction, a material that has been gaining prominence in contemporary architecture due to its durability and versatility.
The initiative was also an opportunity to discuss the importance of sustainability in timber construction, highlighting the fundamental role of the material in reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change. The students learnt about PORTILAME’s main projects in which wood is the main raw material, proving its effectiveness as a construction option.
This partnership demonstrates how industry and education can work together to promote knowledge and innovation, paving the way for a greener and more creative future in architecture. PORTILAME expresses its gratitude to the University of Minho and Professor Jorge Branco, reinforcing its commitment to promoting knowledge and excellence in wood construction.
