Architect Sérgio Rebelo was awarded the Douro Architecture Prize for his work on the winery of Quinta de Santo António, located in Arodigo, Tabuaço, in the district of Viseu. The award ceremony took place during the celebrations marking the 23rd anniversary of the inscription of the Alto Douro Wine Region on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
According to the jury, the project stands out for its harmonious integration of contemporary architecture and the cultural landscape of the Douro, creating a unique link with the natural design of the wine-growing territory.
PORTILAME is proud to have contributed to the completion of Quinta de Santo António, a remarkable project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of contemporary architecture and the cultural landscape of the Douro.
This project was developed using a hybrid system, where wood played a central role, consolidating PORTILAME’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. Our team was responsible for:
– 74 bi-articulated gantries built using 54 m³ of glued laminated timber, guaranteeing structural strength and an elegant design;
– 276 CLT panels, covering an area of 1.360 m², providing insulation, energy efficiency and a unique aesthetic.
With this approach, PORTILAME not only brought architect Sérgio Rebelo’s vision to life, but also reinforced the importance of wood as an essential material in contemporary architecture, integrating perfectly into the Alto Douro Wine Region.
The prize, which is awarded every two years, reinforces the importance of good construction, conservation and rehabilitation practices in the Alto Douro Wine Region.
Honorable mentions were also awarded to two other projects, including Quinta do Crasto, in Sabrosa, by architect Francisco Vieira de Campos, also built by PORTILAME.
